DO NOT CALL ME ABOUT THIS CAR!
Hello, my name is
VIDEOBOB and this is my "KNIGHT
RIDER" replica of "K.I.T.T.".
It is based on a 1984 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am GTA.
It is complete with T-TOPS and the bowling ball hubcaps just like the
car used on the TV show.
TRIVIA: The original car used in the
show was one of the very first cars off the line of Pontiac in 1982.
This is known as the 3rd
generation of Firebird.
John Z. Delorean (Creator of
the DeLorean Sports Car) was an engineer
for Pontiac and built the Firebird in the late 60's.
GM needed a 2 door / 4 seater
to compete with the Ford Mustang.
Watch THIS VIDEO to learn more about it.

Externally, the Knight Rider car is basically just a stock Trans Am,
with the exception of the elongated sloped front nose piece.
This includes the red scanning light, fog lights and running lights.

The rear tail lights are masked with a black lexan cover, just like the
one on the show.
The lights
can only be seen when they are lit from the running lights
or the brake.

This license plate is metal, embossed and painted.
The stickers are real NOS California DMV stickers for authenticity.

There is a small powered PA speaker mounted under the nose controlled by
a MP3 player that plays the "scanning" sound of "whoosh whoosh" in a
loop.
Every once in a while KITT will say a phrase or two.
These run from the second battery so you can leave them on while parked
and not have to worry about starting the car if the battery runs low.

The original donor vehicle had over 178K miles.
It was completely redone from the ground up.
Including a new out of the crate 350 V-8 and all accessories.
The engine only has less than 500 miles on it.
It starts up strong, and has all the power of the car on the show.
It will effortlessly leave a strip of rubber on the road.
Many times it will scratch when switching to 2nd even when you are not
getting on it!

The pop-up headlights are legally required for driving, but the fog
lights are sufficient.
The headlights go up and down quickly and in time with each other.
* Many Firebirds have had problems with
these lights, these work perfectly.

This conversion kit is from
DIAMONDBACK AUTOMOTIVE, NJ.
Watch THIS VIDEO to learn more about it.
These guys are no longer in business,
but there are lots of other KITT
makers
out there that sell finished turn-key
cars for an average of $35K-$50K.

MENACING.

T-TOPS can be removed in seconds for the feel of a convertible.

Removing the T-TOPS at a car show is an easy way to allow access to
view the inside.

Underneath the dash (not shown in the photos) is a PA amplifier that
leads to an outside
speaker under the hood, this can be connected to any sort of audio
player...
I have an MP3 player that loops the sound effects of the scanner and
KITT talking.
You can leave the scanner light and sound effects on for display.

The in dash Sony stereo connects to the CD Changer, AMP and bass cannon
for
a real kicking system. This car thumps like a ghetto blaster.
The black vinyl cover conceals and protects the equipment from the sun.

Gas pedal lights up with rows of green LED's - just like the show.

Overhead console, none of these buttons are wired to activate anything
but are all lighted.
There is a hidden forward video camera, with radar and laser jammer for
stealthing the vehicle.

Center console, features the electric window controls, switches for the
fog lights, scanner, etc....

Functioning gauges for tachometer, spedometer, odometer, water temp,
oil pressure,
rich / lean, and others....however some of the gauges need to be
calibrated for road use.
The gauges light up and cycle for display use.

Q: Does this car talk?
A: Yes, there are several programed voice
responses that can be
activated by secret buttons.
I will include a CD of Knight Rider soundtracks, KITT phrases and
software that will let you
add voice activation using a computer in the car.
Certain hidded buttons will trigger phrases like,
"I am the voice of the Knight
Industries 2000 micro processor, K, I, T, T, for easy refference, but
you can call me KITT".
and,
"I am the property of the Foundation
For Law and Government".
You can add many more later.

Close up of switch pods, these are 1st season.
Lighted, but perform no functions.

Hood badge.
This is a one of a kind custom made decal that covers the "GTA" hood
badge.

Fender
badges.
The previous owner added these, although the original Car was NOT a
"GTA".

Sony CD
Changer, Amplifier, bass cannon, fire extinguisher and manual
in trunk.
* NOTE:
UPDATE! The CD Changer shown here has been replaced with a new
Sony 10
disc MP3 player / CD Changer.

"PMD" logo on bucket seats.
